How Canada taxes crypto
The CRA treats crypto as a commodity. 50% of capital gains are added to your taxable income. At the highest federal + provincial rate (~53.53%), the effective tax on crypto gains is approximately 26.76%. There is no distinction between short and long-term holding periods. Business income from crypto is fully taxable.
