A free public reference for crypto tax
Crypto Tax Calculator is a not-for-profit project of Here2Help. It exists so that anyone holding crypto can understand what they would owe, in their own country or anywhere else, without paying for software or handing over their financial records.
Why it exists
Most crypto tax tools are commercial filing products. To be useful they need your transaction history, your wallet addresses and usually a subscription. That leaves a gap for the people who simply want to know where they stand: roughly what a sale would cost them, how much holding a little longer would save, and how their country compares with others. This project fills that gap, for free.
What we publish
- A rate for every one of 88 jurisdictions, short-term and long-term, with a plain explanation of each regime
- A public methodology: where the figures come from, when they were checked, and what is still unconfirmed
- A field guide to the Bahamas, the first in a series on zero-rate jurisdictions
- A free iPhone app that runs the same calculation offline, with Android in beta
What we will not do
- Charge
- Nothing. No paid tier, no subscription, no upsell.
- Advertise
- No ads, in the app or on this site.
- Collect
- No accounts, names, holdings or wallet addresses. Calculations stay on your device.
- Sell
- Nothing to anyone, including data.
Who runs it
Crypto Tax Calculator is a project of Here2Help, a not-for-profit organisation based in Vancouver, British Columbia. Here2Help began in April 2020 as a volunteer-matching platform, built in the first months of COVID-19 to connect people who needed help with neighbours who could give it. It reached more than 5,000 people in its first six months.
This project carries the same idea into a different kind of need: a free, practical public tool, with no commercial interest in the people who use it. It is not a tax adviser and does not prepare or file returns. Nothing here is financial or legal advice.
