How Brazil taxes crypto
Brazil applies a flat 17.5% tax to all crypto capital gains from 1 January 2026, replacing the former 15–22.5% progressive tiers. The R$35,000 monthly exemption was abolished, so small trades are now taxable. The rate applies whether assets are held on local or offshore exchanges, in self-custody, or in DeFi. Income received in crypto (mining, salary) is instead taxed at 7.5–27.5%. Monthly reporting via DeCripto begins July 2026.
The same rate applies however long you held.
