How France taxes crypto
France applies a flat tax (prélèvement forfaitaire unique) of 31.4% on cryptocurrency gains for occasional traders, up from 30% on 1 January 2026. This includes 12.8% income tax and 18.6% social contributions, the latter raised from 17.2% by the 2026 Social Security Financing Act. Professional traders are subject to the BIC regime with progressive rates. Crypto-to-crypto trades are not taxable; only conversion to fiat triggers taxation.
The same rate applies however long you held.
