How Slovakia taxes crypto
Since 1 January 2024 Slovakia has taxed crypto held longer than one year at a preferential 7%. Disposals inside one year fall under progressive income tax at 19% up to €48,441 and 25% above it. Crypto income is exempt from the 14% health insurance contribution that previously applied, and payments in crypto up to €2,400 a year are not taxed. The one-year holding period is the single largest factor in the outcome.
The long-term rate applies once you have held for more than 12 months.
